I wish I was more organised!

Yep, I admit it!

But at least I've given myself a fighting chance.

I'm using the Corporate organiser in my handbag lately. I like it! I can find my pen, phone, glasses and I've got somewhere to put those pesky receipts.

But my favourite thing? When I look into my bag and see that my organiser has an empty pocket, it jogs my memory that I've forgotten something (almost always my glasses)! Yes, the ones that I don't really need. The Red Dot 1.5+ magnification plastic ones.

but don't take my word for it --

I like my organiser because of all the 'stuff' that I like to carry in my handbag is accessible. Saves time as I just lift the organizer out of one bag into another. Everything is still in the same place and I don't forget anything. Especially my phone!! Jeanette.

My bragbags organiser is relativelty compact, and I can take my organiser to the gym, in my gym bag without the extra bulk, and I always know where everything is. Runi

I'm just back from another trip to Vietnam. It is where I have our unique designs made into reality, by the wonderfully talented ladies that I work with.

I'm always asked about what I do, and how I do it, so I thought I'd share a little bit in the next few blogs.

Choosing fabric.

I like to use silk. Why? Because using it honours and continues a dying craft. It is cultivated, dyed, handloomed and so much a part of the Vietnamese heritage. When Thu and I visit the wholesale silk markets, this is what I'm faced with in every direction:

I'm good for about 50 minutes in these teeny tiny stalls, especially when the temperature is 35C and 100% humidity! It never fails that I want to see the silk colour that is under at least 10 other rolls. I start feeling overwhelmed and if I don't have a good list with me, I lose track.

Oh, and did I mention that we have to wait until after lunch before we go to the markets? Because I'm collecting metre samples the stallholders don't want me to jinx their sales for the day.

New Winter Styles

Can't believe the Summer has passed and we are now launching our Winter range. Where did Christmas and New Year disappear to?

I've been able to locate some really lovely leather, very soft and light. I'm a bit of a leather snob I think, so I hope you enjoy very soft leather like I do!

I love grey bags. Is it obvious in the new collection? Grey leather with chunky unfinished pearl square buttons, shiny buffalo horn and other organic details. Soon to be online! Watch this space.

Unlike many designers who might find a lovely button or two and wonder how to incorporate it into their designs, our organic pearl buttons and horn details are designed from scratch. Within the limitations of these beautiful organic items, we can create any shape we desire. You know, it makes it so much harder when you don't have a starting point! Well, I think it does.

Anyway, we're snapping photos and more styles will be coming online shortly.

Holiday Packing Tips

Holidays are meant to be relaxing but the addition of children, dogs, inlaws and packing can mean we end up more frazzled than ever. We can't help you with the rest (especially not the mother in law :)) but we've some advice to help you with packing and staying organised on your trip.

Limit the amount you take. Easier said than done, but by sticking to a few basic color options you will increase your mix and match capacity. Take a neutral coloured bag to pull the looks together.

Tips for Cleaning Your Handbag

Someone once said a dirty handbag is a sign of a dirty mind. Well, not really, but it is a sign of a dirty handbag :) Look after your handbag and it will not only look great but it will last longer too.

Leather bags should be cleaned only with a specialist leather cleaner.

PU (synthetic) bags may be washed using a mild soapy solution and then dried thoroughly before use or storage. Fragrance free baby wipes can also be used to clean off scuffs and marks from the exterior of your handbag.

Your bag lining can be kept clean by vacuuming it out (once you've removed the important contents!). It is important to protect the inside of your bag from any sharp objects, like pens. Of course we do suggest that using a non-plastic liner will protect the lining as well.

We are responding to my South African friend's request for a super secure organiser for her handbag. She loves our handbags and is my best advertising out there. New Range Launches at Upmarket

We're busy packing and pricing in time for Perth Upmarket on Sunday. Perth Upmarket has moved location to Winthrop Hall at UWA. We think this new location will give some much needed elbow room to our customers. It was pretty cramped at the Town Hall.

Our new range will feature some butter-soft 100% leather handbags. Some of our all time faves have had a remake and they are looking good! Also, we've put in a microsuede lining into these bags which is a really nice luxurious feel and very durable as well!

Our new washed-velvet-silk scarves are ready to go. My favourite colour for this season has to be the green. It will look terrific with jeans on the weekend, or dressed up with greys. I'm going to pop on one of our new quirky brooches -- can't decide between the Adam and Eve or the Retro TV. Maybe I'll wear both!

What Magazines Do You Read?

I've been watching that excellent series on the ABC about Mags. Have you? It has burst the bubble on the truth about magazines and why they write (and photograph) what they do. But who is really leading who? Do we, the reader, determine the content, or is it the magazine editor?

The recent episode talked about the celebrity baby making epidemic, and how this could revive or extend a career. Photos of the baby bump, then the baby, then how quickly they get back into shape, then the diet and exercise video and so forth. Why are we so obsessed with looking at these 'famous' people?

When my Yr 9 daughter had to list world-famous Australians for her school homework this week, I was dismayed that the list was like a Hollywood who's who -- Heath Ledger, Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman. When I pointed out some of our famous scientists and so forth -- Fiona Woods for example -- she had 'forgotten' them. Note to self: more talk around the dinner table about people who are changing our world (the real world, not the digital world).

Anyway, back to the magazines. "Girl in a Satchel" listed the content on February's magazines. Its alarming! Have a read of it at: http://girlwithasatchel.blogspot.com/
The good ole Australian Women's Weekly is top of the polls with a grand 32% content!

Are we losing the art of reading? Are we buying magazines for the glossy photos, rather than the content?

I buy Vogue, Instyle, Bazaar and Shop Til You Drop magazines for the photos, I'm not ashamed to say it. However, I buy them purely for business reasons, they provide inspirations behind some of our handbag designs. But when I'm just being me, I'm a "Delicious" magazine buyer, because it reminds me about the talented chefs in this world, and I dream about the dinner parties I used to have!

I was able to hear Miss Universe Australia 2007, Kimberley Busteed talk about her role as Foundation Ambassador. Handbag Design Workshop At MLC

Today I ran 2 rather rushed handbag design workshops at local girl's school MLC. The culmination of the workshops is a design contest, and the girls have a couple of weeks to complete their sketches and hand them in. I'm looking forward to seeing what their creative minds are cooking up. Always a treat!

This is the 3rd year we've done this workshop, and this year we are doing a BeachBag Design. Very practical for our long Summer days on the Perth beaches.

The range of handbags you had on display were striking and eye catching. As I browsed through your fabulous winter range I was spoiled for choice. Look no further! We'll be attending Treasured Craft Creations at the Claremont Showgrounds over the Anzac Day Weekend. Times are:
Saturday 12-5pm, Sunday & Monday 9:30-4:30pm. To locate us, head down towards the Cafe at the end of Robinson Pavilion. See you there!

Then, we'll be at the Floreat Forum from the 28th April to Saturday 2nd of May.

How you carry your handbag reveals your personality!

If you hold a handbag by the handle (hand is lowered) - you are moderate in every respect, decent and punctual.

A hand passed through a handle (an elbow is pressed to waist), this means, you like order and can keep house, are proud of yourself and very much afraid to fall in other people’s estimation.

If the hand, which a handbag is thrown on, is lifted upwards, to a shoulder - you are courageous and vigorous, do not avoid problems, are sociable, however, are too afraid of loneliness.

If you hold your bag by the corner, you might tend to leave it anywhere. It is peculiar to exclusively self-confident natured women.

Bag through a shoulder (hand is not free) - you are constraining and underconfident. And if your hand dangles every which way, you are cheerful, like company and compliments.

Bag under arm – you make an impression of a closed person, however it is quite possible that you are simply independent and serious.

Winter Awaits

Its not far off now, when we'll see the fruits of our hard designing work over these past few months. Yes, our Winter range is almost ready.

We've had a revisit to some popular themes of past, one being the perennial favourite, the "Too Many Shoes" bag. This time we've put together a "Too Many Boots" theme with a brand new messenger style that is covered with child-proof cover to keep those sticky fingermarks at bag. It has a matching uber-cool overnight bag. I'm thinking I'm going to use my for the gym (which unfortunately means it hasn't been out much lately!).

Anyway, we are constantly asked about our handbag organizers. We sold out in December, and they are available at the end of this month. Hurray! This time we've upped the ante and made them for luxe microsuede. Nothing like being organized and glamorous at the same time!

We are BUSY - busier than Britney's hair extension applicator , busier than Katie Holmes' boyfriend jeans and WAY busier than Angelina's nanny.
We have had a great 2 weeks with a successful Breast Cancer fundraising lunch where brag bags even made the West Australian social pages...finally!, a call from Woman's Day to feature some of our clutches, and hertime women's evening with the 1500 guests all leaving with a gift of our custom silk-screen scarves. We hope you are loving your scarf!

Check out page 30 of last week's Grazia to see how fashion's bad boy Christopher Kane has taken inspiration from our funky Retro Circles at London Fashion Week. Our Retro Circles hit the stores on September 1, this mag is dated September 26!

Fashion Parade, Next Events, How to Wear Jeans

It has been a very very bust week and a half at brag bags - we had the
Pearls of Wisdom breakfast which featured a brag bags fashion parade
set to Fergie's "Labels or Love". Big thanks to Danielle and the
girls at Metro Models for such a great show. All the girls had a great
time and the Brag Bags team were one of the last to leave.

Ms WWFB's held a very successful fundraising morning at the Perth
International School. Thanks to all the ladies especially Tracy

This week we will be supporting the Breast Cancer Fundraiser - Fashion & Flowers
at Frasiers in Kings Park. On Sunday the 14th of September
we will have a stall at UpMarket at the Perth Town Hall from 12 -
5pm. Come along and grab yourself something fabulous.

The week beginning Monday the 15th of September to Saturday 20th of
September bragbags will be at Melville Plaza Shopping Centre on
Canning Highway - please come by and say Hi!

BAG OF THE WEEK - Spent the weekend toting around my Yellow Pleated
Shoulder bag and just found it fun, fashionable and fabulous - a
little like the Brag Bags Team actually :)

We want you all to look and feel as fabulous as you are so though some timely tips for choosing jeans would come in handy:

If you are curvy, dark jeans are the most flattering as light or
bleached denim will emphasize your thighs and bottom - eekkk!

If you are vertically challenged stay away from cropped jeans as they
will make you look shorter. (Ms WWFB I am looking at you).

Back pockets - not just somewhere to pop your mobile - so choose them
carefully. To slim down a generous bottom opt for large, flat pockets.
Flap pockets or prominent stitching however will add definition to a
flat behind.

Dress Like A Star this Summer

The excitement in the air is palpable this week at brag bags HQ as we unpack the Summer shipment – have my eye on no fewer than seven bags to kick off the season – too much is never enough.

Book Of The Month – Contrary to popular belief we do (and can) read something other than Vogue and Grazia and our must read book this month is “Dress Like A Star” by fashion’s fairy godmother Annebelle van Tongeren, senior stylist for such shows and events as Australian Idol, Big Brother, The Logies, The Arias and Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. On Annebelle’s wise advice I have thrown away all my 50’s style skirts and polo necks to reveal a slimmer and taller Ms WWFB J

Retail Detail – We have been loving our time at shopping centres around Perth meeting our customers, making new friends and getting lots of valuable feedback on our range. next weeks Lottos numbers?" and "Should I eat yellow snow?" - the
answers to which are obviously NO) is

"How do I pick the right bag for my body shape?"

This is easy peasy lemon squeezey - think of your
handbag as an amusing diversion - drawing the eye away from figure
flaws and towards your better features....

Here is your quick guide to choosing the right Summer bag -

Do you have a larger booty than you might like but a great bust (and these two features do often - sadly - come as a pair) then your Shell
Circle Clutch worn under your arm will draw the eye up.

Is your Wonder-bra your best friend but you have great thighs? Grab a Lotus and all eyes will be on your gorgeous pins.

Does your tummy say six pack but your upper arms say BINGO? Wear your

3 Things I have Learnt About Fashion

1. You don't always get what you pay for.
2. Skinny leg jeans are only for people with skinny legs.
3. While leg warmers do indeed keep your legs warm and head bands are bands for your head. Nail bars are sadly not hardware stores that serve cocktails :(

You lucky girl - the last "romantic" weekend I went on with a hot boy was in a caravan. In Augusta. The boy was my son and it was December. Get out your Croque Cabin and throw in some saucy nightwear, glam resort wear and a bottle or three of champagne. Fill the bath with bubbles on arrival and light some candles and any nerves will magically melt away like my foundation on a hot day :)

Help! I don’t know how to wear the new season metallics – especially accessories – should my shoes and bag still match????

Hhhmmmm - ok – do you live on the Gold Coast (Viva Bris Vegas), are you the mother of the groom, do you serve drinks at the Copa Cabana…if you answered no to all of these (and even if you answered yes) then you don’t need to match your shoes and bag. Contrast and complement and treat metallic’s like a neutral especially in Spring and Summer when black shoes can be a bit harsh.
